Support Our Work

The SERA is an entirely voluntary group. That means all of our on site restoration work, all of our admin and all of our fundraising is done by unpaid volunteers. We recieve no official funding other than what people like you donate to us. Without that support we would achieve nothing. You can make a real difference by making a contribution to our funds. There are many ways you can do this and you can choose which project you wish your funds to support.

Friends Schemes

This is our basic membership package and is priced at £30 for a Calendar year which runs from 01st January until 31st of December. Standard membership can be paid either as a single payment or by monthly standing order, as long as the value of your standing order reaches £30 over 12 months you are a friends member. You can, if you wish, nominate a chosen project from our three units to be a friend of; The 457, The South Tyneside or the 2-EPB. All friends will receive the following each year:

To become a Friend of either Unit you need to make either a one off donation each year of £30 or more to the Suburban Electric Railway Association or set up a standing order or recurring monthly PayPal donation of at least £2:50 per month. You will need to let us know which project you are supporting but that's it, there is no obligation to do any more. We will then send your membership pack out to you.

By signing up as a friend you will receive the following:

  • Membership of the Suburban Electric Railway Association (annually renewable if making a single donation)

  • Two copies of the group publication 'The Contactor' during the year plus an invitation to the group annual general meeting.

  • A special limited edition Friends of the 457/South Tyneside (whichever you choose) membership card

  • PLUS
An exclusive item of branded merchandise based upon the project of your choice sent to you upon completion of 12 months support.
This item will vary from year to year and will not be available on general sale. Examples of the type of items we send out will include; mugs, pens etc.

    Premium Membership

As with friends membership this runs for the calendar year from January 1st until December 31st. It costs £50 for the year and can also be paid either by one off payment or by monthly standing order which has a total value over 12 months of £50 or more. Premium members get all the benefits of Friends Membership but additionaly you are enrolled as a standard member of the 4-SUB Association and can attend and vote at that AGM. There will also be a special annual event organised for premium members to attend each year.
